The Orthopedic Foundation For Animals is a database where health test results are published for public viewing. To view a specific dog's records on OFA, you must search by that dog's registered AKC name.

To get a Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) number, in Cavaliers, a breeder must have sent eye, heart, patella, and hip results to the OFA. Not all breeders choose to send health test results to the OFA or get CHIC#s, in which case, it is important to ask to see hard copies of a dog's most recent exam results.

*Many breeders choose NOT to screen for CM/SM, for reasons such as the real and true risk to the (sometimes lengthy) anesthesia needed for an MRI scan, to avoid the costs involved in a scan (upwards of $2k/dog), and/or because of the unknown nature of the disease in which two clear parents sometimes produce affected offspring (similar to the unknown inheritance of MVD).
